Crash!

Well, this isn't directly related, but my hard drive really took a nose dive.
The disk was unreadable and unwritable in various places.
And when I restarted, the only thing I could get out of it was some message like "missing NTLDR.SYS". The End.

So, here I am with a new installation of Windows. I don't have to tell you it's kind of a setback. But at least I saved off my Rin ga Utau work at the end of the 1st pass. So I only have to repeat a little of it.

I feel that this would be a great time to try out Linux. Since my computer is kind of a clean slate anyway...

That's too bad. I remember when that happened to my laptop. Thankfully, I was able to restore the file, so nothing was damaged.

you should've used an NTLDR fix or use the "Repair" function in your Windows XP install disc.

if you wanna try Linux, Ubuntu or Fedora is a starting point.

lastly, always remember to set up two partitions.

They never gave me one. All I had was the HP recovery disc, which is what I used to restore the things back to its initial state.

As far as Linux, I gave Ubuntu a quick try. v11.04. But, it could not set the graphics mode properly, and dumped me out to text during the installation. Maybe that means I need some special driver or something.

Sorry to hear about the crash, but it's great that not too much was lost. Thanks again for your efforts, looking forward to it.

I've had that NTLDR.sys problem several times.... it's such a pain!
I was able to fix it by, copying the NTLDR.sys from the original windows disc to replace the drive one.

But, first I think I had to run a chkdsk with the take forever command /? the one that re-checks Everything, fixes and recovers information...

All of this from the Recovery Console.
